PERSPECTIVE.

Wildlife and nature photography is so much more than a pretty picture to hang on a wall. It quietly begins long before the shutter is pressed. Experiences and moments unveil themselves with patience, observation, and openness. I'm Susan Evans, and south Florida is where I live, photograph, and write. Through these captures from the beautiful world around us, I hope to share stories of moments in time - and why those moments became photographs.

IMMERSION.

Most every morning I leave my house in the still darkness, having packed my camera bag the night before. The only known for the day is the unknown of what I will encounter when the light comes up and reveals what will draw me in. Past years of methodical plans and lists for every day and hour feel like a lifetime ago as I now welcome the opportunity to let things unfold as they come before my camera and me.

Some days I get to spend hours in the wild with a single bird, closely observing and photographing how it looks and what it does - all the while telling the stories in my mind. Often there is an emotional connection with what I am seeing, sometimes immediately recognized and other times later understood. The wildlife and nature draw me in, and when each day ends I am eager for the next.

PURPOSE.

Photography connects. It is a window into experiences we may only hope to see in our daily lives, or into memories of beautiful things we have encountered. Preserving moments in time and telling their stories through pictures and words is how I spend my time, and creating this website and store for wildlife and nature photography is a way I can share those experiences. We honor what we choose to preserve.
